A £2.8 billion contract to provide the British Army with over 500 new armoured fighting vehicles has recently been announced and is set to create hundreds of jobs in Telford. This joint venture between defence companies Rheinmetall and BAE Systems will be known as RBSL.
IMS works in partnership with RBSL Telford and the Sodexo site team, providing engineering support in carrying out planned preventative maintenance to production and production related equipment. We also carry out reactive works where our technician attends all breakdowns supported by our mobile team and staff based at our Portsmouth office.
This announcement is good news for the local economy, local jobs and supply chains. The new contract helps to secure the existing jobs of employees at the Telford site and create up to 600 new defence jobs over the coming months and years.
The Boxer is an 8×8 wheeled armoured transport vehicle, designed to transport troops onto the front line, these important armoured vehicles will be employed by the British Army’s new Strike brigades and are expected to be built in Hadley Park.
Because of its versatility the Boxer vehicle can be used as an ambulance, troop carrier, military equipment transporter and command vehicle. Their modular design and state of the art mobility means that they are well equipped to deploy rapidly over long distances across a variety of challenging terrains.
The vehicles are due to start arriving with British Army units from 2023.
