A group of 6 IMS staff recently took part in the Emergency First Aid at Work course, a 1-day classroom-based training workshop at our Portsmouth office, delivered by the British Red Cross.
Specially designed for the workplace, the training gives employees the skills and confidence to respond to a wide range of emergencies and accidents they may encounter at work. Such as:
- Unresponsive and breathing
- Unresponsive and not breathing
- How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Choking
- Having a seizure
- Suffering from Shock
- Heavy bleeding
- Burns
As the attendees included a mixture of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers and office-based staff. The training was tailored to fit situations that may arise in the office or whilst out on a site; the course offered a practical hands-on approach to simulate real-life situations. The course also included information about:
- Assessing & monitoring a casualty
- Where to get help from
- Electrical incidents
- COSHH (The control of substances hazardous to health)
- Electrical incidents
Throughout the duration attendees ran through a series of practical demonstrations, working in teams and completing a range of question and answer sessions. This resulted in everyone passing the course and receiving their ‘Emergency First Aid Training at Work’ Certificate.
